Fall Harvest Gathering: Celebrating Local Food and Community

L’Anse, MIchigan – The Western UP Food Systems Collaborative (WUPFSC) is excited to announce the Fall Harvest Gathering, an afternoon of food, learning, and community celebration. This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday November 2nd from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Zeba Hall, with a tour of the Debweyendan Indigenous Gardens (DIGs) at 3:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.

The Fall Harvest Gathering will offer participants a unique opportunity to explore the richness of local food systems, enjoy hands-on learning about Michigan’s fresh fish, and tour the beautiful DIGs site.

Agenda Highlights:

  • 1:00 PM - Welcome & Networking
    Kick off the day with an introduction to the Western Upper Peninsula Food Systems Collaborative (WUPFSC) and a chance to mingle. 

  • 1:30 PM - Enjoy a Local Feast!
    Indulge in a delicious spread of locally sourced food and beverages catered by Rez Robins. Water and apple cider will be provided, along with wild rice soup, fry bread, and squash. 

  • 2:00 PM - Michigan Fresh Fish: From Water to Table
    Learn about Michigan’s local fisheries and aquaculture from Lauren Jescovitch, an Extension Educator with Michigan State University Extension and Michigan Sea Grant. Get hands-on with a fish-cooking demonstration and gain confidence in handling and preparing local seafood.

  • 3:00 PM - DIGS Garden Tour
    Conclude the day with a guided tour of the beautiful DIGS Garden, teaching kitchen, and fish processing facility, learning more about sustainable gardening and local foodways.
